Design and build services

House extensions in Surrey

Surrey Build Group designs and builds high end house extensions across Surrey, including single storey rear extensions, side returns, wraparounds and double storey extensions. One team handles the architecture, structural engineering, planning and build, and your agreed build cost is locked in from the day you appoint us.

Overview

How we deliver extensions

A good extension changes how the whole ground floor works. We design around the way you live, opening the back of the house into a kitchen, dining and family space with rooflights, large glazed doors and steel beams that remove the walls you no longer need.

We often combine an extension with a loft conversion in one programme of work, which saves on scaffolding, design fees and the time you spend living with builders. One client had a loft conversion and a large extension completed together and moved straight into the finished space.

Questions

Extensions: your questions answered

Do I need planning permission for a house extension?

A single storey rear extension can often be built under permitted development: up to 3 metres deep on an attached house or 4 metres on a detached house, and no more than 4 metres high. Larger rear extensions may be possible through the prior approval process. Double storey extensions and homes in conservation areas usually need planning permission, and side extensions have their own size limits. We confirm the right route and handle the application.

How long does a house extension take to build?

Build time depends on the size of the extension, the groundworks and the lead time on glazing and steels. We give you a written programme before work starts, and you can follow progress every day through your dedicated client portal.

Can you build an extension and a loft conversion at the same time?

Yes. We regularly deliver both as one project, with one design, one set of approvals and one build team. It is usually quicker and more cost effective than two separate projects.

Do I need a party wall agreement for an extension?

If you are building on or close to the boundary with a neighbour, or digging foundations within 3 metres of their building and below the level of their foundations, the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 is likely to apply and notice must be served. Party wall agreements are arranged by you, and we offer advice and support so you know exactly what is needed.
