Surrey Build Group reviews

We spoke to a number of companies about designing and building our loft extension, one of whom wanted to put a box on the back and another said the existing room configuration would make it too hard to do!

Leigh and Sarah had great vision for what could be achieved and worked with the architect to design an excellent option to re-pitch the roof and use steels to create a much larger space. The costs were comparable to the other options we had but it was very clear that we would be getting much more of a loft for our money and a more seamless integration into our existing home.

Throughout the build we had consultation over key decisions and were able to change the loft floor plan as we saw the loft space take shape. The workmanship is to a high standard from scaffolding, structural engineering, bricklaying, carpentry, roofing to detailed internal carpentry and tiling. We designed the bedroom fitted storage after we saw the space available and via skilled workmanship they created a huge amount of storage in our eves spaces with an integrated feel.

We also now have a large bathroom that has a wet room shower, free standing bath and 2 sinks on a vanity unity. Surrey Lofts put us in touch with a great local bathroom supplier and after we designed our bathroom and chose the sanitary ware they fitted and tiled to an excellent finish.

We had a few options of how to build the stairs and how it would impact existing rooms, it was very helpful to be able to choose to impact the bathroom less then what has now become the office room.

All of the workers were polite and nice to have on-site, easily approachable and helpful. As a whole Surrey Lofts went above and beyond our expectations to build the loft space far beyond our initial ideas. Our experience was great from start to finish and we now have a fantastic new bedroom space and bathroom that we are very grateful for!

We recently had a loft conversion and large extension completed by Surrey Build Group, and I honestly couldn’t recommend them more highly.

From the very first visit, Leigh was incredibly knowledgeable. He took the time to clearly explain what was possible in terms of the build, as well as what would realistically be approved through planning. During the sales stage, he was always quick to respond to my questions and visited multiple times to help confirm measurements, which I really appreciated.

The office team were equally fantastic. They supported us through the plans, planning approval, and preparation for the build, and were always one step ahead. Their organisation meant everything ran smoothly, with no delays and very little stress on our side.

When the build began, I was amazed at how quickly everything progressed, especially considering it was both a loft conversion and a large extension. The whole process felt efficient and well managed throughout.

What really stood out was the extra support from Leigh and the team. They helped with interior decisions, including decoration, shutters, and carpets, ensuring everything was ready for us to move straight into the new space without any hold ups.

From planning to finalisation, the various teams were great. From the PM to the builders, electricians and plumbers, the service was friendly and accommodating.

Any additions we wanted were discussed and recommendations given and we are very happy with the finished product.

I have already recommended them to other people and will be using them for my rear extension too!

Surrey Lofts completed our Velux loft conversion within around six weeks, creating two bedrooms, a walk-in wardrobe and bathroom. Leigh is the ultimate project manager, being hands on and with an excellent eye for design (including a relatively last minute design change to incorporate a vaulted ceiling from first floor, which was a game-changer for the end result).

The process from start to finish was hassle free and professional, with a WhatsApp group enabling Leigh and Sarah to keep us informed during the build, and any ‘extras’ outside of the original scope all transparent when it came to cost. Leigh and Sarah are also thoroughly nice people to deal with.

When first approaching Surrey Lofts for a quote we did see some negative reviews online for the same company name, which naturally raised some eyebrows. However, we were quickly satisfied that this was a legacy issue from when the company was under different ownership many years ago, and before Leigh’s time. The old and now irrelevant reviews shouldn’t put anyone off using the new version of Surrey Lofts.

We were pleased with all of the tradesmen during the build, including the electricians and plumbers. Surrey Lofts sorted out our planning application, which was required for the conservation area we live in. They also have a ‘snag man’ as part of the team who sorted out any minor issues at the end of the project.
